Question

How do I setup the SIP Passthrough feature in my 3347-02-1022?

Answer

When using a VoIP phone with the 3347-02-1022, the SIP Passthrough option in the 3347-02-1022 may need to be disabled in order for that phone to have full functionality.  By default, SIP Passthrough is enabled.  This document describes how to disable and enable SIP Passthrough in the 3347-02-1022.

Disabling SIP Passthrough

  1. Launch a terminal client, such as Windows Command prompt or Apple Terminal application.
  2. Type telnet 192.168.1.254 at the prompt and press the Enter key.   

    NOTE: By default the LAN IP address is 192.168.1.254.  If the default address has been changed, enter the custom address in the address box.

    If this is the first time accessing the gateway, see Answer # 20288 - 3347-02-1022: Command Line Access

  • At the Login prompt, type admin, and press the Enter key.
  • At the Password prompt, type the Device Access Code of the device, and press the Enter key.  The Device Access Code can be found on the yellow sticker located on the bottom of the 3347-02-1022 gateway.

    NOTE 1: By default, the password is the Device Access Code.  If the default password has been changed, enter the custom password.

    NOTE 2: When entering the password, the password itself will not be visible, but the gateway will still accept the keystrokes.

  • At the Netopia-3000 prompt, type configure, and press the Enter key. The gateway will now be in Config Mode.
  • At the Netopia-3000 (top) prompt, type set ip sip, and press the Enter key.  A sip-passthrough prompt appears.
  • At the sip-passthrough prompt, type in off, and press the Enter key.  The Netopia-3000 (top) prompt appears.

Enabling SIP Passthrough

  • At the Netopia-3000 (top) prompt, type exit, and press the Enter key.
  • When prompted to Save modified configuration data, type y and press the Enter key.  A message stating Configuration data saved should appear.
  • At the Netopia-3000 prompt, type restart, and press the Enter key.  The Motorola gateway will now restart.
